Yeah, I bet that big ol' rascal got to rollin' around like cats do and gave you a real good time. cool.gif
"...a stone, a leaf, an unfound door; of a stone, a leaf, a door. And of all the forgotten faces.
Naked and alone we came into exile. In her dark womb we did not know our mother's face; from the prison of her flesh we come into the unspeakable and incommunicable prison of this earth.
Which of us has known his brother? Which of us has looked into his father's heart? Which of us has not remained forever prison-pent? Which of us is not forever a stranger and alone?
O waste of loss, in the hot mazes, lost, among bright stars on this most weary unbright cinder, lost! Remembering speechlessly we seek the great forgotten language, the lost lane-end into heaven, a stone, a leaf, an unfound door. Where? When?
O lost, and by the wind grieved, ghost, come back again." - Thomas Wolfe

Maybe it's time to start a new forum category specifically for Catfish? *lol*

There used to be one titled Rough Fish or something like that. I don't think it got a whole lot of activity though.

What kind of streamers did you guys get them on?

Congrats on the cat -- haven't yet had the pleasure, but I guess I need to hit the right water with some Clousers now!

Not much in freshwater will fight harder than a big channel catfish on a fly rod. Congrats!

nice chriss

that clear creek series of rods is only available up to a 5 wt if memory serves

that must be a hoot

I was using a super fast 6 wt

I think I need to try harder at this

who's got a pattern that looks like chicken livers

6' 5wt and i have had a great summer with it!

no need to make a chicken liver fly tongue.gif wait till a good rain and hit the local creeks. the cats will be out at the dams(natural, beaver, riffles, whatever) hunting. streamers and crayfish patterns work, but if they are realy aggresive anything will work.

Another approach is to fish with bait but have your fly rod handy. if the cats are hitting your bait hard, or even better, hitting it befor it hits bottom; then try a fly.

Also: when the minnows or baitfish are running heavy in the spring. find a place where they are thick. the kind of place where you would dip for them with a net. and dead drift a streamer that looks like the baitfish along bottom under the school. the big cats will be down there picking up what the smallies leave for dead.
